You have been part of the MFC family for the last 18 years, tell us something about your journey.
In October 2006, I embarked on a new adventure with MFC as a receptionist, fresh out of college and eager for any opportunity that came my way.
After three interviews and two job offers, I chose MFC because I envisioned that this was an industry I could thrive in.
The journey that followed has been incredible.
At the beginning, I relied on MFC’s company transport to get to work, which was more than just a commute—it was a chance to bond with my colleagues and build lasting friendships – which is key to settling into any new company.
In 2008, when the opportunity arose for a Customer Service Coordinator in our sea freight department, I seized it.
Through dedication and hard work, I was fortunate to advance to Team Leader, to Supervisor, and eventually to Manager of Sea Services.
None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of my amazing teammates and, most importantly, my family.
In these long 18 years, you would have faced numerous challenges, especially in this male dominated industry, how do you reflect on that?
In the male-centric world of the freight industry, where traditional gender roles have long dominated, carving out a space for women can be a demanding journey.
Yet, I dared to challenge these norms, and the rewards have been amazing. My journey is of a woman who joined MFC right out of college and after 18 years of relentless dedication, now I stand as the Sea Freight Manager— proof that commitment and discipline works, and belief that my potential would be recognised.
Thinking back now my journey is marked by late nights, tough decisions, moments of doubt, sacrifices and choosing my work over spending time with loved ones.
Some of these decisions are easier for a male than a working woman who is also her family’s primary caregiver.
Today with MFC’s support I hope that I serve as an inspiration to other women who are navigating similar paths and facing their own set of challenges.
During your 18 years in the industry, what has been the biggest challenge you have faced professionally?COVID was a massive strain; it completely transformed both our personal and professional lives. All of a sudden, our desktop computers were replaced by laptops, and my kids' online studies were taking place at my dining table, whilst I was trying to run my department and talk to customers.
It meant a whole new learning as I had become knowledgeable about e-signatures, VPNs, paperless processes, amongst many other things.
However, I am now confident that both myself and MFC as an organization, are in a stronger position than we were previously in terms of robust working style and stronger contingency planning.
